Raspberry Ketones
The weakest ingredient in the formula by a wide margin — popular through television promotion rather than research.
Raspberry Ketones in the SugarPure Formula
Rheosmin
In one line: Essentially no human trial evidence supports any of the claims made for this ingredient anywhere in the supplement market.
The weakest link in the formula. Essentially no published human trials support the claims made for it anywhere in the supplement market.
SugarPure publishes no serving size, which is unusual for a dropper
This is a liquid supplement in a dropper bottle, and the official page states no serving size, no number of drops, no timing and no bottle volume.
With a capsule the format itself implies a dose. With a dropper it does not — the difference between two drops and a full pipette is enormous, and nothing on the reference tells a buyer which is intended. It also means there is no way to work out how long a bottle lasts, which is why no supply length appears on this site's pricing.
No ingredient amounts are published either. No figures are estimated anywhere on this website; the product label is the only thing that can settle either question, and it is worth reading before you take anything.
What Raspberry Ketones Are in SugarPure
Raspberry ketone, also called rheosmin, is the aromatic compound largely responsible for the smell of red raspberries. It is used widely as a flavouring and fragrance ingredient.
Two things are worth knowing immediately. First, the amount naturally present in raspberries is tiny — extracting a supplement dose from fruit would require an impractical quantity, so essentially all supplemental raspberry ketone is synthetically produced, whatever "natural" implies on a label. Second, its structural resemblance to synephrine and capsaicin is the basis for the claim that it affects fat metabolism.
What the Raspberry Ketone Research Found in SugarPure
This section is short because there is very little to report, and that is the finding.
There are essentially no published randomised controlled trials of raspberry ketones alone in humans for weight loss or metabolic outcomes. The handful of human studies that exist tested multi-ingredient products, which cannot attribute any effect to the ketone.
The cited research is cell and rodent work. Studies in isolated fat cells and in mice have reported effects on lipolysis and fat accumulation. Those studies typically used concentrations or doses far beyond anything a human supplement delivers — in some cases equivalent to amounts a person could not realistically consume.
The popularity is promotional in origin. Raspberry ketones became a mass-market supplement after prominent television endorsement in 2012, not after a clinical result. Sales followed the broadcast, not the evidence.
What Raspberry Ketones Mean in a SugarPure Bottle in SugarPure
An ingredient with no human evidence, at an unpublished amount, in an undosed liquid.
There is no charitable reading available here. Whatever this ingredient contributes to the formula, no published human research supports expecting a metabolic effect from it.
It is worth asking what it is doing in a product marketed around blood sugar at all — even the marketed claims for raspberry ketones concern fat metabolism rather than glucose.
Raspberry Ketone Safety in SugarPure
The honest position is that safety is not well characterised in humans, because the human research that would characterise it has not been done.
- As a flavouring, at the tiny amounts used in food, raspberry ketone has a long history of use and is generally regarded as safe.
- At supplement doses, which are far higher, there is little human safety data. Absence of reported harm is not the same as evidence of safety.
- Structural similarity to stimulants has prompted theoretical concern about cardiovascular effects, and some case reports have described palpitations, though causation is not established.
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding and children: avoid, on the general principle that untested compounds do not belong there.
How to read the research on this SugarPure page
The studies referred to here examined individual ingredients, on their own, at doses the researchers chose. That research explains why an ingredient might be included in a formula.
It does not show that SugarPure produces the same outcomes. No clinical trial of this finished product has been published, and neither the ingredient amounts nor the serving size is disclosed, so the two cannot be connected.
SugarPure safety: what to check before ordering
This formula is not a benign multivitamin. Two of its five ingredients carry documented liver-injury signals, and three can affect blood glucose.
- Blood glucose medication. Chromium, panax ginseng and garcinia cambogia may all lower blood glucose. Combined with diabetes medication this can cause hypoglycaemia. Speak to a doctor or pharmacist first.
- Liver. Concentrated green tea extract has an established association with liver injury, and garcinia cambogia has been implicated in hepatotoxicity reports including cases requiring transplant. Stop and seek medical advice if you notice jaundice, dark urine, abdominal pain, persistent nausea or unexplained fatigue.
- Blood thinners. Panax ginseng interacts with warfarin, and green tea contains vitamin K. Mention both if you take anticoagulants.
- SSRIs and other serotonergic medication. Garcinia cambogia has case reports of serotonin syndrome when combined with antidepressants.
- Caffeine. Green tea extract contains caffeine unless decaffeinated, which the brand does not state. Relevant if you are sensitive to it or already drink a lot of coffee.
- Blood pressure and stimulation. Panax ginseng can affect blood pressure and cause insomnia or agitation in some people.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding. Not appropriate, and not tested.
- Surgery. Discontinue well beforehand, given the bleeding and glucose considerations.
Consult a healthcare professional before use, particularly alongside any prescription. This is a product for adults.
